HOA Emergency Repairs

STORM DAMAGEREPAIR

Minnesota Weather Is Hard on Electrical Systems.

High winds, ice storms, and lightning strikes do not just knock out power — they damage the physical infrastructure that delivers it. Service entrances, exterior conduit, and distribution equipment take the brunt of severe weather, and the damage is not always visible from the outside. A building that looks intact after a storm may have compromised wiring or equipment that is unsafe to energize without inspection.

Loch Monster Electric responds 24/7 to storm-related electrical damage at HOA and multifamily properties across the Twin Cities Metro — assessing the full extent of damage, making temporary repairs to restore power quickly, and completing permanent repairs with the documentation your insurance claim requires.

When Do You Need

STORM DAMAGE ELECTRICAL REPAIR?

A STORM HAS KNOCKED OUT POWER TO YOUR BUILDING

After a major storm, utility crews restore power to the street — but that does not mean power is restored to your building. Damage to the service entrance, weatherhead, or exterior feeders on the building side of the meter means the utility's work is done and yours is just beginning. The building's electrical infrastructure has to be assessed and repaired before power can be safely restored to residents. We respond quickly after storm events, assess the full building-side damage from the service entrance inward, make the repairs needed to restore power safely, and coordinate with the utility on reconnection. You get a written record of everything found and repaired, which matters both for your own records and for any insurance claim that follows.

A LIGHTNING STRIKE HAS DAMAGED ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

A direct lightning strike or a nearby strike that travels through the utility lines can destroy panels, meters, breakers, and connected equipment through surge damage — often without any visible external sign that anything happened. Equipment that appears intact after a lightning event may have sustained damage that causes it to fail under load or create a hazard that is not immediately obvious. We assess all electrical equipment in the affected area after a lightning event — not just what visibly failed — replace what is damaged, and document the full scope for your insurance carrier. An incomplete assessment that misses damaged equipment is the kind of thing that shows up as another failure weeks later, when residents have already been told the problem is fixed.

ICE OR WIND HAS DAMAGED EXTERIOR WIRING OR CONDUIT

Ice accumulation on overhead service conductors and weatherheads, wind-driven debris, and the weight of ice on exterior conduit runs can all cause physical damage to the parts of a building's electrical system that are most exposed. A ripped weatherhead connection, cracked conduit, or severed exterior feeder can leave a building without power and cannot be repaired until the damage is properly assessed and the utility disconnects the service for safe access. We coordinate the utility disconnect, make emergency repairs to restore service as quickly as conditions allow, and schedule permanent repairs for what cannot be fully addressed during an emergency visit. Everything is documented from the initial temporary repair through the final permanent fix — so the work history is complete if questions arise later.

Any situation that affects multiple units, creates a safety hazard in a common area, or requires an immediate response to prevent property damage. Power outages affecting shared systems, sparking in a utility room or mechanical space, breaker failures that take out hallway lighting or exit signs, and storm damage all qualify. If you are not sure, call. We would rather field a call that turns out to be routine than have you wait on something that is not.

For properties in the core metro, our goal is to have someone on site within a few hours of an emergency call. We are not a dispatch center, which means when you call, you reach someone who can make decisions and get a licensed electrician moving. Response times vary based on current workload, but emergencies go to the front of the line.

Your property manager or on-call building contact should have our number. We prefer working through a single point of contact at each property so we are not getting conflicting calls from multiple board members or residents. Set up the relationship before an emergency happens so there is no confusion when it does.

We document what we found and what we repaired. You get a written record that covers the diagnosis, the work performed, and any follow-up recommendations. If the emergency was caused by something that needs a longer-term fix, we flag it clearly so it does not turn into another emergency six months later.

Yes. After a significant storm, we can do a systematic assessment of exterior electrical systems, panel conditions, and any areas where water intrusion may have compromised wiring or equipment. We document everything in writing, which is useful for insurance claims and for prioritizing repairs.
